M-VIF: A machine-vision based on information fusion

The authors describe a new architecture for machine vision, which is based on information fusion approach. Its general design has been developed by using a formal computation model that integrates three main ingredients of the visual computation: the data, the models, and the algorithms. The hardware design and the software environment of M-VIF are also given. The simulation of M-VIF is under development on the HERMIA-machine.
An architecture for autonomous agents exploiting conceptual representations

An architecture for autonomous agents is proposed that integrates the functional and the behavioral approaches to robotics. The integration is based on the introduction of a conceptual level, linking together a subconceptual, behavioral, level, and a linguistic level, encompassing symbolic representation and data processing. The proposed architecture is described with reference to an experimental setup, in which the robot task is that of building a significant description of its working environment. © 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. Corner and junction detection is an important preprocessing step in image registration, data fusion, object recognition, and many other tasks. This work deals with corner and junction detection of characteristic features of the structure resulting from cross-pattern projection. The ultimate aim is to adapt the positions and orientation of the cross-pattern projections to what has been observed. The use of this projected light pattern in the framework of active vision allows us to identify certain points of interest on 3-D objects, to directly acquire a synthesis, which thus permits simplified detection, measurement, recognition, or tracking. A cognitive architecture for artificial vision

Abstract A new cognitive architecture for artificial vision is proposed. The architecture, aimed at an autonomous intelligent system, is cognitive in the sense that several cognitive hypotheses have been postulated as guidelines for its design. The first one is the existence of a conceptual representation level between the subsymbolic level, that processes sensory data, and the linguistic level, that describes scenes by means of a high level language. AbstractFaces are perceived holistically, even when they are presented briefly (Hole, 1994; Richler, Mack, et al., 2009). Results obtained with a context congruency paradigm support dominance of holistic processing for brief timings, but indicate that larger viewing times enable observers to regulate contextual influences, and to use a feature selective focus (Meinhardt-Injac, Persike, & Meinhardt, 2010). Here we provide further evidence for this claim, and illuminate the role of feedback.
